Thetis
ble bygget som et forskningsfartøy i 1961, og ble i flere år
brukt til å forske på fisking og det marine miljøet
langs Sveriges kystlinje. Hun ble på 80 - tallet ombygget til
trawler, og gjorde tjeneste som dette da hun gikk ned i dypet 24. Oktober
1985. Thetis var da på reise tilbake mot sin hjemhavn Kungshamn
med en last av 24 tonn fisk, men langs Smögen blåste det
sterk vind og sjøen var ganske grov. Det tok ikke lang tid før
Thetis fikk slagside og begynte å ta inn vann, og kaptein Gunnar
Knutson og hans besetning på ni mann måtte forlate skipet.
Mannskapet ble raskt berget av et annet skip som kom til unnsetning,
men Thetis var tapt for alltid. Det er antatt av manglende stabilitet
var årsaken til denne ulykken. Vraket hviler idag på en
dybde av tjuefem til tretti meter nordvest for øya Tryggö.
Vraket av Thetis er i god stand og står på kjølen,
men broen er forsvunnet. Vraket er normalt merket med en bøye
som er festet på akterskipet. En båt er nødvendig
for å komme ut til posisjonen...
Thetis was built as a research ship in
1961, and was for several years used in the purpose to do research
on fishing and marine environment along the Swedish coastline.
In the 80`s she was rebuilt as a trawler, and did service as this
when she went down in the deep 24. October 1985. Thetis was then
on a journey back to her homeport with a cargo of 24 tons of fish,
but along Smögen there was strong winds and rough sea. It
did`nt take long before Thetis got a listing and started taking
in water, and captain Gunnar Knutson and his crew of nine men
had to abandon ship. The crew was quickly rescued form another
ship that came to the rescue, but Thetis was lost forever. It
is presumed that lack of stability was the course of this accident.
The wreck rest today on a depth of twenty five to thirty meters
north west of the island Tryggö. The wreck of Thetis is in
a good condition, and stand on her keel, but the bridge has disappeared.
The wreck is usually marked with a buoy that are attached to her
stern. A boat is necessary to reach the position...
