for Lindesnes 19. Juli 1944.
Desember 1943. De
fikk ordrer for sitt første front oppdrag 1.
The German submarine
U 310 was sunk by a British B-24 Liberator airplane southwest
of Lindesnes 19. July 1944. The submarine was under command of
Oberleutnant
zur See Johannes Clemens, and had a crew of fifty
men. U 319 was laid down at Flender Werke in Lübeck 18. November
1942, and after sea trials and the final completment the submarine
was transferred to Ausbildungsflottille
in Stettin 4. Desember 1943. They received their orders for their
first front mission 1. June 1944, and sat course towards the North
Sea and Norway. Outside Lindesnes U 310 was spotted and sunk,
and the whole crew perished. The wreck of the submarine was found
by sports divers, and rest on a depth of forty to fifty meters.
In Norwegian newspapers you could read about the finding of this
submarine, and the position was for a time kept a secret, both
because of the explosives around the wreck, but also to prevent
looting. The stern section of U 319 is completely destroyed, but
the rest of the hull is in a good condition, completely overgrown
after all the years on the seabed. ANd because of this, it was
for a while difficult to identify which submarine this was. To
get out to the wreck site you will need nice weather and a boat...

Died on 15. July 1944.
The 4th Flotilla was
founded in May 1941 under the command of Kptlt. Werner Jacobsen.

History provided by
German
Kriegsmarine Encyclopedia;
With over 650 boats build, the Type VII was the most important
submarine in the German Kriegsmarine. Built between 1936 and 1944
those boats mainly operated in the North Atlantic, and were known
for the so called "Rudeltaktik" - a simultaneous night attack
of several surfaces U-Boats on allied convoys. Besides torpedo attacks
they could also be used for mine laying and were well known for their
maneuverability and fast diving speed. Shortly after the introduction
of the first model a improved version with a better maneuverability
(Type VIIB) was built. The most built variant was the Type VIIC whose
variant Type VIIC/41 was made of thicker steel to increase the diving
depth. Other variants include the mine laying Type VIID and the torpedo
supply variant Type VIIF. Today, one of those boats, U995, is on display
in Laboe, Germany.
Utdrag fra Fedrelandsvennen;
