The small steamship
Løveid was laid down in 1870 and had through the years many different
tasks. In 1892 the hull was extended with ten feet and later put
into local transport in the Grenland area. In 1939 the vessel
was bought by Olaf and Frank Beier, but the loss of her the year
after gave the Beiers a great economic loss. Carrying a cargo
consisting of 28 cases of porcelain from the factory Porsgrunn
Porselen, which for many years after this incident was a motivator
for divers who tried to find this vessel. The wreck rest today
on a depth of approximately forty meters right outside the pier
in Porsgrunn city. The wreck of Løveid is in a poor condition
and only small remains can be seen today... Løveid found her grave
in the water of the Frierfjord outside Porsgrunn 8. August 1940.
The wreck is also located in the harbor area, and diving here
is not allowed.
