The steamship Strassburg
went down at Skåretrebåen north of Haugesund under
a journey from Cuxhaven in Germany to Ålesund to pick up
a cargo of fish. In Haugesund city they took on board ice and
empty cases, and left the harbor on the evening on 10. February
1923. North of Haugesund they hold the course to much towards
west and the vessel stranded on Skåretrebåen in high
speed and was stuck. The salvage vessels Achilles and Hercules
arrived the site on 11th of February, and worked to salvage the
ship, but had to abandon Strassburg because of bad weather and
the damages on the ship. Some inventory was either way salvaged
from the wreck. Today the wreck of Strassburg rest on a depth
of forty meters pretty much broken down. The steam boiler and
lots of wreck debris lies along the reefs, and there are little
left which reminds you of a ship today. The wreck is very difficult
to find, and it is recommended that you get help from local divers
who knows the place. You must have nice weather and a boat to
get out to Strassburg...
