The motorship Nesodtangen
went down in the deep outside Stavanger in 1975, but unfortunately
there are little information about the actual sinking of this
ship. Originally the ship was laid down at Trondhejms mekaniske
verksted in 1929 as a steamship for Nesodden Dampskipsselskap,
and for many years Nesodtangen went in passenger traffic between
Nesoddtangen and Oslo. In 1952 the engine was replaced by a diesel
and Nesodtangen was modernized. In 1971 the ship was sold to Sarpsborg
Skipsindustri who rebuilt the ship. After a couple of years the
ship ended up in Stavanger for homeless oil workers until she
was sunk at Steinsøy. The wreck of Nesodtangen rest today
on a depth of forty to fifty three meters merely five minutes
with a boat from Stavanger city at Steinsøy. The wreck
stands on her keel as a nice "Donald Duck" wreck in
good condition. Stavanger Divecenter can arrange trips out to
the wreck...
