The steamship Rabat found her grave in in the waters in Bodø harbor October 4th. 1943 after an allied air attack where the vessel was hit by a bomb and sunk a short time after .The attack resulted in two sunken and six damaged ships. Two planes were also shot down, among these a Junker 52 and one Heinkel 115. In the attack 357 Germans where killed. The allied losses counted for a total of three planes, two men where killed and two men captured by the Germans. Before the outbreak of second world war, Rabat were trafficking between Germany, Portugal and Spain, but was set in to serve in the German navy during the war. The ship were also marked for service in the forthcoming invasion planned on England in 1941 by Hitler and his henchmen. The wreck of Rabat is a dream wreck and in a very good condition even if there were salvaged on the wreck in the 50`s.. The wreck lies on depths from twenty meters and down to a maximum of forty three meters. This is a large wreck with a length of 91 meters and provides exciting diving. The visibility is usually very good. The site is normally marked with av buoy, and dive shops in the city arranges trips to the wreck of Rabat...
