KNM Torp became one of the victims for the storm that raged around Kristiansund 1 January 1992. In the chaos around the city the rescue cruiser Ada Waage out to help the crew on a stranded cargo freighter out at Ormtunga outside Kristiansund when KNM Torp comes throwing in the sea without a crew on board. Torp had laid at anchor, but in the hard wind the mooring had been teared of, and the ship drifted now helpless in the storm. Attempts to tow the ship in safety were done, but the wind got to strong and the cable loosened from KNM Torp. Thereafter the ship disappeared out of sight for the rescue crew. A few days later rumors started to flow that KNM Torp was found by sports divers out at Kvitnes lighthouse, and this proved to be right. In the following days different inventory was salvaged from the wreck, and the ownership was given to Kristiansund dive club who now are the official owner of the wreck. KNM Torp rest on her keel as a nice "Donald Duck" wreck on a depth of twelve to twenty eight meters next to Kvitnes lighthouse in Nordsundet right outside Kristiansund city. A boat is nessesary to get out to the wreck of KNM Torp...
