The steamship Statsraad Riddervoll was attacked by allied airplanes on 28. April 1942, and went down in the deep by the damage and the loss of maintenance later. The vessels was launched in 1877, and that same year the shipping company Parelius & Johnsen opened up the first route between Kristiansund and Trondheim. Riddervoll carried together with three other vessels all the mail headed for Oslo. Under the second world war Statsraad Riddervoll was attacked outside Kvalvik by an airplane, and on of the bombs went down in the cargo room and was stuck in an asphalt barrel without exploding. The vessel survived this attack and laid thereafter tightened to a buoy where she later sank thanks to poor maintenance. Today the wreck stands with the stern part as the shallowest part on twenty meters depth, and the bow section on forty two meters right outside a bank west of Ålesund city. The wreck of S. Riddervoll stands on her keel as a "Donald Duck" wreck and is pretty much intact. A boat is needed to visit the wreck of Statsraad Riddervoll...
