Dampskipet Radbod ble senket av britiske Beaufighter fly den 5 desember 1944 utenfor Selbergvika i Ørstafjorden etter å ha søkt ly i fjorden for å unngå faren for flyangrep av fly på "Anti-shipping" oppdrag. Radbod var på reise sørover for reparasjoner etter en ulykke utenfor Bodø i september samme år, og seilte nå i konvoi med skipene Dockenhunden, Albert Janus og Cygnus. Eskorten besto av det tyske vaktskipet V-6805. Ved ankomst i Ørstafjorden ankret Radbod og Dockenhunden utenfor Selbergvika, mens Albert Janus og Cygnus gikk inn til Ørsta. Vaktbåten V-6805 passet på ved innseilingen til Ørstafjorden. Kort tid etter blir Radbod angrepet av flere britiske Beaufightere, og skipet blir hardt truffet av raketter og maskinkanoner i maskinrommet og synker. Besetningen på Radbod går over i skipet Dockenhunden, og ingen omkommer ombord på Radbod. Et britisk fly blir skutt ned og treffer den tyske vaktbåten V-6805 som får skader, og en annen Beaufighter blir truffet og må nødlande senere. Idag ligger vraket av Radbod på en dybde av tjuefem til åtti meter med akterskipet som dypeste del rett utenfor Selbergvika rett vest for Ørsta og er et populært dykkemål. Vraket ligger nesten to hundre meter fra land, så båt anbefales. Som en kuriositet ble det sommeren 2001 oppdaget et par utenlandske turister som plyndret Radbod ved hjelp av tungt verktøy. Det antas at de overivrige vrakdykkerne får en uønsket oppmerksomhet fra de norske politimyndighetene. For å besøke vraket av Radbod anbefales det å bruke båt...


The steamship Radbod was sunk by British Beaufighters on the 5th of December 1944 outside Selbergvika in the Ørstafjorden after she had taken shelter in the fjord to avoid the danger for air plane attack form planes on "Anti-shipping" missions. Radbod was on a journey southwards for reparations after an accident outside Bodø in September same year, and sailed now in convoy with the ships Dockenhunden, Albert Janus and Cygnus. The escort contained of the German guard boat V-6805. When arrival in Ørstafjorden Radbod and Dockenhunden anchored outside Selbergvika, while Albert Janus and Cygnus continued in to Ørsta. The guard boat V-6805 was watching the ? to Ørstafjorden. A short while after Radbod is attacked by several British Beaufighters, and the vessel receives heavy hits from rockets and machine cannons in the engine room and sinks. The crew on Radbod goes over to the vessel Dockenhunden, and no one perish on Radbod. A British air plane is shot down and hit the German guard boat V-6805 who takes damages, and another Beaufighter also get hits and must make an emergency landing later. Today the wreck of Radbod rest on a depth of twenty five to eigthy meters with the stern part as the deepest part just outside Selbergvika straight west of Ørsta and is a popular dive site. The wreck lies almost two hundred meters from land, so a boat is recommended. As a curiosity a couple of foreign tourists where spotted in the summer of 2001 when they robbed Radbod with help from heavy machine tools. " Took action against German divers on warwreck
The police officer in Ørsta took action against three German tourists who dived in
Selbervika in Ørstafjorden wednesday afternoon. - It was after tips from the public that the police authority took actions. The three divers dived at the wreck of the German goods vessel «Radbod» on 5.500 tons which went down under the war. They had brought with them pressure tools, says Police officer Metter Ekroll Hatlehol at Sunnmøre Police district. It is not allowed to gather things from war wrecks. All German wrecks from the war belongs to the former Høvding Skipsopphugging. Today it is Saga Shipping that has the rights. - Therewith it is a law offence to remove anything from these vessels, says Police officer Mette Ekroll Hatlehol. The police will take new examinations from the three German suspects today...
