Dampskipet Hans Leonhardt
tjeneste under navnet Seelöwe transport A47.
Her hvilte vraket
The steamship Hans Leonhardt went down in
the deep on the 1st of June 1944 in Åramsundet after having been
torpedoed by thirty British airplanes form the aircraft carriers
HMS Furious, HMS Victorious and HMS Frencer. Hans Leonhardt was
a large cargo freighter which was requisitoned by Kriegsmarine on
the 14th of August 1940, and put in service under the name Seelöwe
transport A47. On her last voyage Hans Leonhardt was on a journey
from Ålborg in Denmark
to Kirkenes with a cargo of ammunition and hay when she was attacked.
Hans Leonhardt sunk southeast of Kvamsøy near Stadt, and was soon
removed from the German shiplist so late in the war. After the second
world war some inventory and loose spread gods salvaged from the
wreck by the salvage company Høvding, but the wreck itself was left
in peace, and Hans Leonhardt was quickly forgotten. Here the wreck
rested until 1985 when she was refound by sports divers on a depth
of thirty six meters. The wreck of Hans Leonhardt er heavily broken
down, but nearly thirty meters of the bow is still partly intact,
and in the whole area twisted remains of the hull is spread wide.
To get out to the wrecksite a boat is needed...
