The steamer Beaconsfield disappeared in the
deep at Bjogna on the 7th of April 1905 during a journey from Kristiania
to Trondheim with a cargo of coal. Beaconsfield stranded on Bjogna
under heavy wind and snowy weather. The vessel slides later of the
bank and sank at Sjurstarene on thirty meters depth, with the mast
above the waterline. On board the vessel are captain J. Jensen and
a crew of fourteen men and a pilot together with a toll guard, but
nobody got injured under the accident. The wreck was in the days
after the stranding checked up by the salvage vessel Stærkodder,
and a diver was down at the wreck to check out the condition, but
the damages were to big on the vessel to launch an salvage operation.
Thereby the Beaconsfield history ended, and here the wreck was left
in piece until Nils Aukan located the wreck in the eighties. The
wreck lies on a depth of twenty four to thirty two meters with her
keel up, and is pretty much broken down. Bjogna lies in open waters
and here many vessels has went down through the times. Around the
bank you can still see the remains after the steamship Wavelet and
many other vessels. To get out to Bjogna you must have nice weather
and a boat...
