The German freighter Wolsum was bombed
and sunk by Russian airplanes in Kirkenes harbor 16. september
1944, and the cargo caught fire. On the afternoon 16. september,
Wolsum was towed out of the harbor, and later that same afternoon
parts of the cargo exploded and sunk the ship.
Wolsum lies today on a depth of nearly seventy meters between
Hølen and Reinøya outside Kirkenes. The wreck is
only partly intact, with the mid - and stern section in the best
condition. A boat is neccesary ...
