Johannes L went down south of Koppervik harbor in the morning 26. November 1979. Johannes L had leaved Koppervik harbor and was on her way to Stralsund in Germany, but at the exit of the harbor they had done a bad maneuver and damaged the bow when they hit ground. Captain Ferdinand Gerkens believed they hadn't taken damage in this incident, and continued their journey south towards Stralsund. But a few hundred meters outside the harbor everything goes wrong. Johannes L had the bow ripped open, and takes in a lot of water. An emergence signal is sent through the radio, and captain Gerkens gives the order to the crew of four men to go to the lifeboat. Shortly after Johannes L disappears close to land south of Helsingborg in Sweden. The wreck rest today on her port side on a depth of two to thirteen meters, and is an intact wreck. The wreck lies close to land and it is therefore possible to get to the site by using a car, but a boat is recommended. Johannes L is a popular divesite, and dive clubs often arrange trips out here...
