South of Falsterbro outside the coast of Sweden rest the wreck of the Estonian trawler Ek-7508 Vapper on a depth of seven to thirty meters. EK-7508 was used in service in the Estonian fishing industry, and was built as a self supplied fishing factory. Rumors also claims that these trawlers under the Soviet iron curtain were used as surveillance- and radio ships. But when the Soviet Union disintegrated and the iron curtain fell, a great deal of these ships were of no use anymore. On 13. October 1993, EK-5708 was sold to Dubai for dismantling. The ship was to be towed to India and the Russian company RaffTransFlot was given the task to tow the ship from Estonia to India. On the night of 19. December 1994 the cable broke in high waves and strong winds and the ship was left to herself and started to take in water. Shortly after she disappeared in the deep. For several years there was not allowed to dive on this wreck since the Swedish authorities feared an oil leak, but this ended in the year 2000. The wreck of EK-7508 stands today on her keel and is in a good condition with a few exceptions on her midship. You can still see cranes and other equipment which was used for her service as a fishing factory, and from Swedish divers i am told that this is a very exciting and intact wreck to dive on. Good weather and a boat is absolutely necessary to visit this wreck...
