The Norwegian steamship
Anna Sofie went down 23. February 1944 west of Haugesund under
a journey from Thamshaven to Emden in Germany after have struck
ground on Trollholmen northwest of Vibrandsøy. The vessel
still floated after the accident, but one hour later the vessel
started to sink in the bay further north. The crew on board got
away without any injuries. The vessel was originally laid down
in England in 1919 with the name War Cove, but was later that
same year sold to a company in Haugesund, and was then renamed
Anna Sofie. Under the second world war the vessel did service
for the Germans, and she was armed with antiaircraft weapons which
was manned by German soldiers. The vessel did service along the
Norwegian coast. The wreck of Anna Sofie rest listed today on
her port side with the bow pointing southwards on a depth of thirty
five to fifty two meters in pretty good shape. The wreck site
is located a bit west of Haugesund, more exactly on Trollholmen
between Vibrandsøy and Osnesgavlen, and to get out to the
wreck of Anna Sofie you must have nice weather and a boat...
