Elieser 5 served as a hospital ship for the homeless people in Oslo before the ship came in such a bad condition and was sunken in Ormsundet between the islands Langøya and Malmøykalven right outside Oslo city on the 13. January 1984. Many peoples probably still remember the noble mission the ship did for the homeless in Oslo through many years. Much of the prehistory around Elieser is difficult to find, but the ship was laid down in Nova Scotia with the name MMS 1050 in 1944. The owner of the ship when it served as a hospital ship in Oslo was Den Indre Sjømannsmisjon in Bergen. When the situation for the homeless dramatically changed in the mid eighties, it was decided that Elieser 5 had done her part. It was quickly decided that the ship was to be sunken in Ormsundet, and on the 13th of January 1984 the vessel is brought out to to Langøya. In this operation the fire corps in Oslo was given permission to set fire on the ship to train on her before she was sunk. After they had put fire on Elieser she laid there burning until almost only the hull was left of her, but she still wouldn't sink. After some more waiting it was decided that the ship had to be rammed, and shortly after Elieser gets the final stroke. The ship sinks totally burned down outside of Langøya after a long and noble service... Today the wreck lies on the seabed on a depth of over sixty meters in Ormsundet a short distance outside Oslo city. If anybody have wishes of diving on this wreck, you will have to gather a permission from Oslo harbour authority, and a boat is also necessary since the position lies quite a distance from land...
