Den tyske ubåten U 64 deltok sammen med den tyske kampgrupppen i angrepet mot Narvik under operasjon Weserübung i 1940, invasjonen av Norge. U 64 ble senket under det andre sjøslaget for Narvik den 13 april 1940 av dybdeminer fra et britisk Swordfish fly som var sendt fra slagskipet Warspite mens hun lå for anker ved Bjerkvik utenfor Narvik. I angrepet omkom åtte mann fra besetningen, mens kommandant Kapitänleutnant Wilhelm Schulz og trettiåtte mann kom fra det med livet i behold. Her ble vraket av U 64 liggende i fred frem til 1957, da det ble hevet.

The German submarine U 64 participated together with the German battle group in the attack against Narvik under the operation Weserübung in 1940, the invasion of Norway. U 64 was sunk under the second naval battle for Narvik on the 13th of April 1940 by depth charges from a British Swordfish airplane that was sent from the battleship Warspite while she was anchored at Bjerkvik outside Narvik. In the attack eight men from the crew perished, while the commander Kapitänleutnant Wilhelm Schulz  and thirty eighth men got away with their lives intact. Here the wreck of U 64 rested in peace until 1957, when when she was salvaged.

U-Flotilla "Saltzwedel"* was founded on 1 Sept 1936 under the command of Fregkpt. Scheer. From June 1940 to June 1941 the flotilla moved to Lorient , France. Its history ended in August 1944 when the last boats left Lorient for Norway. * Oblt. z. S. Reinhold Saltzwedel was in WWI Commander of UB-10, UC-10, UC-11, UC-21, UC-71 and UB-81. He sank during 22 patrols 111 ships for a total of 170,526 tons. He died on 2 Dec, 1917, when his UB-81 was sunk by a mine in the English Channel.
