Wilhelmshaven (for the first
weeks in Kiel) Wilhelmshaven/Lorient (France) Lorient (France)
U-Flotilla "Saltzwedel"* was founded on 1 Sept 1936 under
the command of Fregkpt. Scheer. From June 1940 to June 1941 the flotilla
moved to Lorient , France. Its history ended in August 1944 when the
last boats left Lorient for Norway. * Oblt. z. S. Reinhold Saltzwedel
was in WWI Commander of UB-10, UC-10, UC-11, UC-21, UC-71 and UB-81.
He sank during 22 patrols 111 ships for a total of 170,526 tons. He
died on 2 Dec, 1917, when his UB-81 was sunk by a mine in the English
Channel.
