Øygar had through the years been used in
different missions, among these, passenger traffic and guard duty
and had been operating i several different waters around Island
and the Norwegian coastline. One of the more interesting and dramatically
situations Øygar lived through, was when she on the 22nd of April
1940 took part in a battle against a German navy vessel. Øygar damaged
the German vessel, but got away from the battle without receiving
any damage herself. Later on the Germans put her into service as
a guard boat in the first line of defense and named her Bisam NB.07,
later on with a new name as V- 5507, but ended the war without a
scratch. After the war Øygar were again put into passenger traffic
by the same company whom owned her before the war. Øygar ended her
days after have being towed out to Moldvær south of Ålesund in the
Heissafjorden on the 4th. of November 1983 and sunk. The wreck lies
today intact on twenty meters depth a little west of Moldvaer, and
is a typical and popular Donald Duck wreck. A boat is necessary
to visit Øygar...
