Dampskipet
i 1909. Skipet var registrert for å kunne frakte tre hundre passasjerer.
The
steamer Richard With was named after the Coastal express father,
and was laid down in Trondheim
in 1909. The vessel was registered to carry three hundred passengers.
On Saturday the 13th of September 1941, Richard With was on a journey
southwards with 135 peoples onboard, when the vessel is hit by a
torpedo and sinks in less than a minute. Of the peoples onboard
Richard With, Captain Kristian Dahl Knutsen who was in command of
the vessel and 102 peoples perished. Close by the small Norwegian
vessel Skolpen laid at anchor, which by a miracle managed to rescue
the remaining peoples who floated in the cold water. Richard With
was torpedoed close to Rolvsøya between Hammerfest and Honningsvåg
by the British submarine HMS Tigris which neither gave the crew
or passengers onboard the option to abanndon the ship before they
torpedoed her. Kptlt. Bone who had the command on HMS Tigris tried
to lie his way out of the situation later by telling that the vessel
had been part of a convoy, but the lie was soon discovered and Bone
received a oral warning. The history of war has tried to blame the
Germans or the Russians for this incident, but they can not run
away from the written documentation from 1941. The wreck of Richard
With is located on a depth of fifty five meters...
